New sorority diversifies W&L Greek system

Washington and Lee University has yet another Greek organization on the hill: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. This chapter is part of the oldest Greek letter organization for black women in the nation. Dean of Students Dawn Watkins calls the addition of AKA "a dream come true." She says having AKA on campus will provide more opportunities for students wanting to "go Greek" and strengthen the school's mission of service in the surrounding community. After an almost seven-year campaign to establish a chapter at W&L, Watkins and Associate Dean of Students Tamara Futrell say they are celebrating as much as the young women.
