150 years later, Lexington still tied to Civil War
With sesquicentennial, tourism rates expected to rise in the coming years

April 12 marks the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War. Lexington, Va., the resting place of both Confederate Generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, is rich in Civil War history. Civil War buffs include Lexington on their stops - whether to pay "the General" a visit or to take in the quaint atmosphere of the downtown. In light of the sesquicentennial, tourist venues and historical societies alike expect much more visitor traffic in the coming years.
