While some Virginia schools are feeling the aftermath of the nation’s economic recession, other colleges have maintained their levels of financial aid. Washington and Lee University and Virginia Military Institute, neighboring schools in Lexington, continue their commitment to meeting the demonstrated needs of students as well as to offer merit-based scholarships. Nearby James Madison University has had to reevaluate its financial aid offerings, and, in order to help as many families as possible, plans to distribute smaller awards to more students.
